Reality Meets Poetry

No other song can evoke such a strong reaction in me-i feel like i can't breathe when i listen to it, my stomach twists and i feel uneasy . It's a dark and beautiful piece of work from Ursula Rucker and The Roots, and originally featured on the album Things Fall Apart. Rucker is one of my favourite poets and she consistently creates powerful prose.Her work deals with issues that are painful to face such as the topic covered in the song above. Her voice is distinct, and has a quiet elegance.

I completely understand what you mean by this. I get a similar feeling from the Tori Amos song 97 Bonnie & Clyde.

I always got a bit green about the gills (no pun intended Ms Eye) whenever I heard that Lottie. Might be that it's her taking Eminem and twisting what is a song about killing his wife and running away with his daughter and giving it a female voice.

"i feel like i can't breathe when i listen to it, my stomach twists and i feel uneasy"

For me that's Dylan's Simple Twist Of Fate, for many reasons.

@Lottie : A lot of Tori's stuff i find painful to listen to,97 Bonnie & Clyde would be one,Playboy Mommy is another.
Stange how a piece of music has the power to completely unnerve people.

@Sinful: "People tell me it's a sin
To know and feel too much within."

Dylan is a master of nailing something in one line for me.

@Sinful - I think Tori got there first so it's Eminem twisting her song. (Credit where credit is due)
