History Underfoot

These images are the the work of Sergei Larenkov. They appear to feature the city of St Petersburg,which was formerly known as Leningrad. The originals captured the city during the Siege of Leningrad.

He’s reshot World War 2-era photographs from their original perspectives; and then merged the results with the originals.

What a beautiful idea. Thanks for sharing these. I also remember Russian Ark as being quite impressive, and the French diplomat was hilarious.

@B: I think that's why i liked them so much, Sometimes it's a really simple idea which is the most effective.

@A.D.E: Russian Ark is spectacular isn't it. I've watched it a few times and every time i see new details. Still don't know how they managed to shoot it!

@Lottie: It's easy to forget we walk daily on streets where so much has happened.

@RP's: Gorgeous but also eerie.
