Making Mischief

My appetite has been whetted for the upcoming film 'Where The Wild Things Are'. Directed by Spike Jonze and adapted from the classic 1963 children's book of the same name by Maurice Sendak, it's due for release in October 2009.

Where The Wild Things Are is about the imaginary adventures of a young boy called Max. After causing mischief whilst wearing his wolf suit, he is sent to his room without supper by his mother. His imagination evokes a world inhabited by large monsters, who crown him as their leader. It explores how little control he has as a child in the real world; but in his imaginary world, he is king of the wild things and may do as he pleases.

I cringed when i heard a film was in production as it could have so easily gone wrong. However the trailer gives me the impression that the film was in good hands with the direction of Jonze and with a script by Dave Eggers (of McSweeneys fame-see link section to right hand side of page); coupled with a cast featuring Forest Whitaker, Paul Dano, James Gandolfini and Catherine Keener. Plus Karen O from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs has worked on the soundtrack

Weird. I hadn't seen your post but chose the exact title for my own post about this movie.

WTWTA looks fairly whopper, doesn't it?

@NM: I know,it's one of the few film's I'm actually eager to watch.

@B: There's been a numbers of rumours flying round about this. Back in Feb '08 there was talks of a reshoot as the 'suits' didn't like what had been made up to that point.

Also reports of problems with the monsters, they originally used foam suits but have had to incorporate elements of CGI as well. Exec's were worried that the original footage was too scary and out there for a kids film.

@BubbleBoy: Welcome! Ah great minds think alike :P

Yep it looks pretty cool, counting the days til October.
